Browbands are one place you can add jewelry to your horses
head. It is a place for creativity, but never over-shadowing
your horses face. The combinations pictured are styles
that have been popular with many riders in a variety of disciplines.
The ornaments are solid brass or a heavy nickel laid over brass
for the utmost in durability. The brass may be polished for a
gleaming luster, while the nickel needs only to be wiped off
with a clean cloth.
Those browbands with crystals on them need to be cared for like
jewelry. Use them only for competitions, lest they become clogged
with arena dirt and loose their brilliant sparkle. Wipe with
a soft cloth or clean with a soft toothbrush. The crystal browbands
are designed for a long life, but need extra care for the stones.
The man-made gemstones are reasonably durable and are designed
for outdoor use. Again, wipe with a soft cloth, or use a soft
toothbrush to loosen dirt.
Not liking to make the same things repeatedly, I am constantly
designing styles not pictured. I am always happy to work with
you on a style as well as make something pictured here.
Making a flattering browband for your horse requires your input.
I like to know what your discipline is, what color your horse
is, and even something about your horses personality. Many
of these designs can be put on a noseband, but be warned:
the dressage rules state that the noseband must be made
entirely of leather or leather-like substance. If dressage
is not your sport, there are many design avenues to follow.
My browbands are made with longer loops on the ends to accommodate
wider crown straps on bridles. 1 1/8 is my standard. Should
you want a different size than that, state the width of your
crown strap (the usual sizes are 3/4, 7/8, 1,
1 1/8, and in rare cases 1 1/4).
As the measuring chart shows, I measure the inside measurement
for accuracy. The crown strap then determines what size loops
go on the ends. These browbands can be any length, so measure
carefully. If you have a browband that fits well, use it to measure
from. I increase the inside lengths in 1/2 increments.
The most usual inside sizes range from 12-14. REMEMBER: Measure your actual horse and not his breed. Click
